Investment and Trade Expo
★ Background
Northeast Asia, the economy of which is largely characterized by its geographic location, embraces the Northeast, North and Northwest of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Mongolia and Far East Area of Russia, having in it a total area of 17,280,000 square kilometers and a population of 680,000,000 and occupying 1/5 of the world’s economic volume.
In October 2003, Premier Wen Jiabao proposed to enlarge the regional cooperation in Northeast Asia and accelerate the revitalization of the Old Industrial Bases of Northeast China during the meeting of heads of governments in which China, Japan and the Republic of Korea participated while attending the ASEAN Summit (ten plus three), which has drawn a positive response from the international community. With the approval of the State Council, the first China Jilin • Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, the Office of the Leading Group of the State Council for the Revitalization of the Old Industrial Bases of the Northeast and Other Areas of China and the People’s Government of Jilin Province was officially initiated on April 11th, 2005.
★Purpose
To promote internationalization, focus on unique features of the Expo, improve the quality of the Expo, and yield success.
★Characteristics of the Expo
High Level Attendance Vice Premier Wu Yi of the People’s Republic of China inaugurated the Expo. The UN Under-Secretary-General, UNDP Resident Representative in China, senior governmental officials, ambassadors and counselors to China, CEOs of the World Top 500 enterprises, presidents of famous MNCs, economic and trade groups in and out of China, including 53 governmental officials at vice ministerial level or above from different countries, 52 presidents of the World Top 500 enterprises or their general offices in China all participated in the Expo. 16 of the World Top 500 enterprises subscribed for 126 exhibition stands, occupying 20% of the total international exposition stands.
Large Scale Attendance 1,200 enterprises from 46 countries, more than 4,000 international merchants, and 25,000 clients from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan participated in the Expo. 1,200 journalists from home and abroad and over 200,000 members of the general public also took part in the Expo.
Various activities We successfully held 25 activities like the Investment Forum for Attracting Investment into the Greater Tumen Region/Northeast Asia, the 8th Inter-governmental Consultation and Coordination Conference on UNDP Tumen River Area Development Project, Business Days among friendly provinces of the DPRK and China, the Republic of Korea and China, friendly provinces of Mongolia and China, provinces of China and Russia, Communication, Cooperation and Business Day Activities between Jilin province and cities of Japan, Conference on Introducing Investment Environment of Jilin Province, Seminar of the Service Industry in Hong Kong and Revitalizing Northeast China, the 5th Tourism Forum in Northeast Asia, Conference on Revitalizing the Old Industrial Bases of Northeast China, MNC Participate in Rebuilding Old Industrial Bases in Northeast China, “Go Global” Economic Cooperation Seminar, Conference on Attracting Investment of Property Right of State Owned enterprises in Jilin Province, and Signing-up Ceremony of Investment Projects of Northeast Asia Expo, among others.
Big Harvest 2,100 projects for Cooperation or investment were introduced during the Expo, and we received 18,071 merchants, helped 3,828 enterprises hold 2,377 business talks with foreign customers relating to 1,358 projects. 276 investment projects signed with 11 countries and regions as the USA, Japan, Germany, Holland, Italy, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and 16 provinces municipalities and regions (including Jilin, Guangdong, Hebei, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Beijing, Heilongjiang, Hubei, Henan, Shanxi, Jiangxi, Hainan, Liaoning, and Inner Mongolia), attracted investment of about 75.394 billion RMB, among which 132 contracted projects with a total investment of 36.79 billion RMB, 16 projects for property rights transfer of State Owned Enterprises were signed with both domestic and foreign clients with a total investment of 2.208 billion RMB. 2 investment projects of “Go Global” were signed with a total amount of 22 million RMB. Total trade volume reached 292 million USD.
A Brief on Second China Jilin • Northeast Asia
Investment and Trade Expo
Duration: Sept. 2-6, 2006
Venue: Changchun International Convention and Exhibition Center
Orientation: Highlighting the characteristics of Northeast China, framing a platform of exchange and Cooperation for mutual long term benefit, with the aim of building up “the No. 1 Expo in Northern China”.
Scale: More than 40,000 merchants, 50 senior governmental officials at ministerial level and above, 6,000 foreign merchants, 1,000 domestic and foreign representatives of the media from inland and abroad, 70 World Top 500 enterprises and 30 Chinese top 500 enterprises, and leaders of the Central Government of China will attend the Expo. There are now 7 exhibition halls( A, B, C, D, E, F and G) in the Changchun International Convention and Exhibition Center with a total area of 57,600 square meters. There is also a 15,500-square-meter outdoor exhibition area, and a 6,000-square-meter ceremonial square.
Contents: The Expo is mainly composed of three parts, namely investment and cooperation talks, commodity trade, special international conferences and business day activities, and some secondary parts like cultural and sport exchanges, among others.
Investment and cooperation talks
To invite various domestic and foreign investment organizations, investors, enterprises with project for attracting investment and other organizations to participate in the Expo, to organize the Northeast Asian Countries and Countries elsewhere to introduce projects for cooperation and investment, and to increase the reasonable distribution and effective utilization of capital and resources.
----To hold Conferences to promote investment environment and projects for investment and cooperation; to hold match-making meetings for cooperation in the field of auto spare parts, petro-chemistry and food processing, among others.
----To provide information online for effective communication on projects, capital and resources beforehand so that more projects can be signed during the meeting.
----To set up special areas for investment cooperation and service trade in the Exhibition Center for concentrated exposition and direct contact.
Commodity trade
We will demonstrate the most famous, advantageous and special products of all the provinces in China and Northeast Asian countries, and invite a large number of domestic and overseas merchants for trade discussions and for establishing trade platforms between China, Northeast Asian countries and the world.
---In the commodities trade area, products will be displayed based on the category of the products, and the same sort of products will be concentrated in one area.
----The products will be displayed in the category of auto and auto spare parts, machinery equipment, food, pharmaceuticals and medical apparatus, electronics, textiles and sports facilities, among others.
Special international conferences
----To hold the Investment Forum for Attracting Investment into the Greater Tumen Region/Northeast Asia, the 9th Inter-governmental Consultation and coordination conference on the UNDP Tumen River Area Development Project.
----To hold the second Forum on Economic Cooperation in Northeast Asia
----To hold the 11th Conference of Local Government Leaders in Northeast Asia
----To hold Russian Week for Economic and Trade Cooperation; Business Days between Sino-DPRK, Sino-ROK and Sino-Mongolia; and the Meeting for Business Cooperation between Chinese and Japanese SMEs.
----To hold Seminars for Business Cooperation between Chinese and Russian SMEs.
----To organize relevant activities on Revitalizing the Old Industrial Bases in Northeast China attended by overseas Chinese and overseas Chinese merchants and from the World Top 500.
----How to participate in the exhibition?
Fill in the Registration Form for the Second China Jilin•Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo (see annex 1). The form can also be downloaded from www.neasiaexpo.org.cn. Copies are acceptable.
The completed Registration Form for the Second China Jilin• Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo could be faxed or mailed to the Expo Secretariat. It can also be done online.

Remark: Different Stand style will be set up according to various products features.
Stands will be designed and equipped according to international standards, and the rate will be as follows:
The standard stand: 720 USD/per, or 6,000 Yuan/per
Unoccupied indoor space: 72 USD, or 600 Yuan per square meter (The rented area must be at least 36 square meters)
Unoccupied space outdoor: 36 USD, or 300 Yuan per square meter
The same exhibition stand fee is applicable for all participating enterprises within or beyond Northeast Asia.
Stands Confirmation
The Expo Secretariat will examine the qualification for participating enterprises upon receipt of the Registration Form of the Second China Jilin •Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo and confirm the stands afterwards.
The participants shall pay the stand fee to the designated account of the Expo within 7 working days after receiving the confirmation letter from the Expo Secretariat. The Expo Secretariat will arrange the exhibition stand after receiving the stand fee and then notify the participants.

How to participate in the Expo?
To participate in the Expo, please fill in the Registration Form of the Second China Jilin•Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo(see annex 2). It can also be downloaded from www.neasiaexpo.org.cn. We will accept copies.
The completed Registration Form of the Second China Jilin•Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo can be faxed or mailed to the Expo Secretariat. Online registration is also acceptable.
The deadline for signing up: 12 August, 2006.
The Expo Secretariat will examine and verify the registration forms and then mail the invitation letters to approved parties.
